What procurement checks before inviting a marine contractor

The invitation is decided at prequalification, weeks before the rig move. If papers are missing, the contractor doesn’t get in, even if it has the vessel.

  1. Who signs

The legal name, tax ID (RIF) and corporate documents of the company you are about to hire.

  2. With which vessels

Each one marked as owned or partner, with its flag and its latest inspection.

  3. With which papers

Every certificate with its number, issuer and expiry date, and the safety system in writing.

  4. What they have done before

Jobs with date and scope. The client’s name only if they authorized it in writing.

Our file covers all four, in that order.

IOGP’s guidance on contractor management (Report 423) recommends assessing a contractor’s capability before the tender: the client gets to know the contractor better, which “reduces uncertainty before inviting them to bid”.

To confirmBefore publishing: which vessels are owned and which are partner vessels (the heading says “our”); the marked figures, against each vessel’s certificates; whether diving, ROV, dredging and subsea work are shown, since they are not among the site’s services; and that the AI-enhanced photos show each vessel faithfully.

Which vessel fits your job? It depends on what moves, from where, to where and in what window. Send us those details and we will tell you.

How we work

A Lake rig doesn’t move by itself

It is moved by a team of vessels and people who have to be ready before the window opens. What decides whether the day of the move goes well happens before, and this is how we prepare it.

  1. We read the scope with your team

What moves, from where, to where and in what window.

  2. We assign the vessels

And we state in writing which is owned and which is a partner vessel, with its latest inspection.

  3. We assess the risks with the crew

The job risk assessment is done with the crew who will be on deck, not just with the office.

  4. We sign the permit before casting off

And everyone knows who can stop the job: anyone.

  5. We review emergencies and communications

The emergency response plan and the communications between vessels.

A crew in a circle on deck reviewing the permit to work

None of that shows in the photo of the rig move. But it’s what procurement checks before inviting us, which is why we have it in writing in our file.

FAQ

What we are asked before being hired

Which company do we sign the contract with?

With Aegean Maritime, C.A., tax ID (RIF) J-31684275-4, registered at Avenida 17 (Los Haticos) #107-197, Maracaibo. The corporate documents are in our file.

Do you own the vessels?

It depends on the job. Each vessel’s sheet states in writing whether it is owned or a partner vessel, with its flag and its latest inspection.

How do you show your safety record?

In writing. Our safety system describes how we prepare each operation: the risk assessment with the crew, the permit to work before casting off and the rule that anyone can stop the job. Safety figures come with their date.

How many years of experience do you have?

We would rather show you jobs with their date and scope than a number of years. They are in our file, and the client’s name only appears if they authorized it in writing.

How much does a job cost?

Everything is quoted by scope: what moves, from where, to where and in what window. Send us those details and we will reply within 1 business day.

Who handles the permits for the operation?

We agree on it with the client for each scope: which permits Aegean Maritime handles and which the operator handles.

Do you work with subcontractors?

When the job calls for it, yes. Before they board one of our vessels, we ask them for the same things an operator asks of us: this is the list.

What language are the documents in?

In Spanish, and in English when your team needs it.

Is there a charge for the file?

No. We email it to you free of charge and with no commitment.
